The Man Walter Lee
A Raisin in the Sun is written by Lorraine Hansberry and Walter Lee Younger is one of the main characters for the duration of the pushover. During the play Walter and his sister Beneatha do not see spunk to eye with their thoughts on the way the rest of the insurance money should be spent, they are getting insurance money because there beget died. During the play Mama makes a decision to stray a down payment on a house in an all-white neighborhood which is unheard of during this time. But there is money left wing after she does this and the family discusses what should be done with it. Walter wishs it so he could perform owner of a Liquor store, whereas Beneatha wants to go to go instill to become a doctor. Mama gives him the remaining $6,500 of the insurance money, congress him to deposit $3,000 for Beneathas education and to keep the last $3,500.



Walter agrees, only when we come to find out when Bobo arrives that he did not put the money in the bank for his sister that he utilize all the money for the liquor store and that Willy Harris run away with it all. When this happens during the play it is tough to feel bad for Walter because throughout the play he has not been good with money from when his son asks for 50 cents and he gives a dollar and then has no money, or by him constantly spending money on alcohol. This to a fault drives a very big wedge between Walter and Beneatha because she was entitle to some of the money that was lost during the business transaction.
